Nauru PCCR Training Participants

NFMRA Headquarters, Nauru - 18 – 22 August 2025

The PNA Office recently held a training workshop in Nauru aimed at equipping officers from the Nauru Fisheries and Marine Resources Authority (NFMRA) with the skills to effectively use the PNA Compliance Case Register (PCCR) system, a vital tool for overseeing fisheries compliance throughout the region.

The sessions focused on enhancing the capabilities of NFMRA’s Compliance team in navigating the PCCR system. Developed under the directive of the PNA Parties, the PCCR system is a secure, web-based platform designed for recording, managing, and tracking PNA flagged fishing vessels’ compliance cases. Its intuitive interface, real-time notifications, and collaborative features allow PNA Members to coordinate on cross-jurisdictional cases, supporting the broader goal of sustainable fisheries governance.

The goals of the training included:

  1. Deliver an in-depth introduction to the PNA Compliance Case Register System, covering its structure, features, and how it operates.
  2. Equip participants with the skills to confidently use the system for monitoring, recording, and resolving compliance cases within the PNA inter-party framework.
  3. Apply training insights to help resolve existing compliance issues.
  4. Foster stronger collaboration and exchange of expertise among participants to enhance regional compliance initiatives.
  5. Examine potential areas of non-compliance in Nauru’s draft Compliance Monitoring Report submitted to WCPFC.

This is the fourth PCCR-focused workshop organized by the PNA Office, following the initial session in the Solomon Islands, followed by FSM, and PNG. It reflects the Office’s ongoing commitment to strengthening member countries’ compliance efforts through practical training and support.

Feedback from attendees and other compliance experts has been encouraging, with many noting the system’s effectiveness in enhancing cooperation through coordination, transparency, and enforcement.

The PNA Office remains dedicated to collaborating with Party members to reinforce effective compliance schemes and promote responsible tuna fisheries management across the region.
